Some 3,400 boys and girls who took the Quranic courses were present at the ceremony, which was jointly held by the Astan’s Dar-ol-Quran Center and Religious Affairs Department.

Salah al-Silawi, head of the Quranic media center of the Astan, said 300 male and female teachers from the Dar-ol-Quran Center and Religious Affairs Department taught Quran memorization, recitation, Islamic beliefs and Fiqhi (jurisprudential) lessons to the participants.

The closing ceremony, which was attended by the custodian of the holy shrine Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalayi, began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by prominent qari Sayyed Abdullah al-Hussaini.

Then a number of officials delivered speeches, underlining the importance of organizing Quranic courses and promoting Quranic teachings.

The courses had started at the holy shrine and in the Dar-ol-Quran Center’s branches in other Iraqi cities in early June.

Lasting for about one month during the summer holidays, the courses were staged for girls in the morning and for boys in the afternoon.

The Astan of Imam Hussein (AS) holds various Quranic programs in Iraq and other countries to promote Quranic concepts and teachings.
